Goodlings

Help & FAQ

Everything families, teachers, and PTAs ask about Goodlings — habits, learning, rewards, safety, and more.

Getting started

What is Goodlings?
Goodlings is a warm, encouraging family app for kids aged about 4–12. It’s built around four pillars — good habits, learning, bonding, and future growth — to help families grow good humans, without feeling like a naggy chore chart.
How does Goodlings work?
Each day the app proposes a ready-made plan of habits, quizzes, and activities. Kids mark things done and earn stars, parents approve with a tap, and a little sprout pet grows as kids stay consistent.
Do I have to set everything up myself?
No. Goodlings proposes daily plans and routine bundles for you, so getting started is about tapping “accept” rather than typing in a long list of tasks.
Who is Goodlings for?
Families with children roughly 4–12, plus the adults who care for them — parents, co-parents, and grandparents — as well as teachers and PTAs who want to connect school and home.

Free & support

Is Goodlings free?
Yes — completely free for families during early access. Habits, learning (all subjects and modes), bonding, reports, unlimited children, and the goodling pet are all included with no paywall.
Will Goodlings always be free?
We plan to keep a generous free tier forever. Optional paid plans may be added later for families who want extra depth, but nothing you rely on today will suddenly disappear behind a paywall without clear notice.
Can I support Goodlings?
Yes. In Settings you’ll find an optional “Support Goodlings” section where grown-ups can make a one-time contribution to help cover hosting and development. It’s never required, and kids never see checkout.
Are contributions tax-deductible?
No. Support contributions to Goodlings are not tax-deductible charitable donations. School PTA donations may be handled separately by your PTA’s own nonprofit status.
Do kids ever pay or see payment screens?
Never. Stars are earned through effort only. Any real-money action — supporting Goodlings or donating to a PTA — is behind the parental gate and only available to grown-ups.

Stars & rewards

What are stars?
Stars (★) are the currency kids earn through effort — completing habits, quizzes, and bonding activities. They’re used to redeem rewards that you set up.
Can kids buy stars?
No. Stars are only ever earned, never purchased. They represent a child’s effort, which keeps the motivation honest.
How do rewards work?
Parents define rewards (like screen time, a treat, or an outing). A child requests to redeem their stars, and the parent approves it — so you’re always in control of what a reward is.
Can teachers give stars?
Yes. Teacher-awarded stars power classroom recognition and the pet’s growth, and they only convert into spendable home rewards if the parent chooses to opt in.

Coins & money

What are coins, and how are they different from stars?
Coins (🪙) are a separate, real-money currency that parents buy and control — used for premium content, gifting, and optional boosts. They’re kept entirely separate from the stars kids earn through effort.
Can my child spend real money?
No. Children never move real money. Any coin redemption is requested by the child and must be approved by a parent behind a parental gate.
Does Goodlings hold or invest my child’s money?
No. Goodlings never holds or invests money. Long-term savings is designed to work through a licensed financial partner — Goodlings only surfaces goals and hands off securely. (verify — planned)
How do gift cards and real-world rewards work?
Through approved gift-card providers, with any gift card issued to the parent — never directly to a child — and every real-money redemption approved by a parent. (verify — planned)

Safety & privacy

Is Goodlings safe for kids?
Yes. There are no ads in the kids’ experience, a kid-locked mode protected by a passcode, parental gates on anything sensitive, and no way for a child to move real money.
Are there ads?
No. The children’s experience has no advertising.
How is my family’s data handled?
We capture adult consent at sign-up, keep children’s data minimal and protected, and give you data export and account deletion in Settings. See our Privacy Policy for full details. (verify)
What is Goodling mode?
Goodling mode is a simplified, calm, kid-safe view for when you hand a child the device. It’s locked with a 4-digit passcode so children can use the app independently without reaching parent settings.
What is the parental gate?
A quick check (such as a small math challenge) that protects sensitive actions like purchases, plan changes, premium unlocks, and account deletion.

Ages & children

What ages is Goodlings for?
Roughly ages 4–12, with age bands of 4–6, 7–9, and 10–12 so content and difficulty fit each child.
Can I add more than one child?
Yes. The free tier supports several children, and Premium supports unlimited children. (verify)
Can young children who can’t read yet use it?
Yes. Read-aloud and an icon-first design support pre-readers (ages 4–6) so they can play more independently.

Learning & quizzes

What subjects does Goodlings cover?
Math, Science, Languages, History, and Geography, across three difficulty levels — Easy, Moderate, and Challenge.
How are quizzes matched to my child?
By age band and grade, with difficulty you can set or let the app choose automatically based on your child’s past performance.
Are the questions accurate and well-checked?
Yes. Questions go through a multi-step validation process — automated checks, math verification, a second AI review, and human review — and you can flag any question right in the app for us to fix.
Can Goodlings help prepare for tests like the CogAT or MAP?
Yes, through original practice packs modeled on the skills those tests assess. Goodlings is not affiliated with or endorsed by the test makers.
Is there competition-level math?
Yes. A Challenge/enrichment tier offers original, competition-style problems for kids who want a bigger stretch.
Does my child get explanations when they’re wrong?
Yes. There’s a gentle explainer after each question and an end-of-quiz review that shows every question, the answer chosen, the correct answer, and why.

Schools & PTAs

Can teachers use Goodlings?
Yes. A teacher can create a class, share a join code with families, assign class quizzes and reading, and award stars for classroom wins.
Does the school or the family own the account?
Families own their own accounts. Teachers connect to families who opt in — the school never owns a child’s personal account, which keeps data firmly in parents’ hands.
What can PTAs do with Goodlings?
Run activity-based fundraisers like read-a-thons and fun runs, collect pledges and donations online, sell spirit wear and event tickets, and post events and volunteer slots. PTA tools are free; funds settle to the PTA (Stripe Connect is planned so Goodlings never holds school money).
Is my child’s data shared with the school?
Only aggregate or opt-in information is visible to teachers; families control what they choose to share.

Devices & access

What devices does Goodlings work on?
Goodlings is web-first and works on phones, tablets, and computers. You can add it to your home screen for an app-like experience.
Is there an iOS or Android app?
Goodlings runs as an installable web app today, and a native app is planned. (verify — planned)
Does it work offline?
Most features need a connection, but printable weekly habit sheets work offline — great for the fridge. (verify)

Family & caregivers

Can both parents use Goodlings?
Yes. Co-parents — including across two households — can share a child and assign or approve tasks, so routines stay consistent in both homes. (verify)
Can grandparents take part?
Yes. Grandparents can have their own role to encourage, gift, and (if the parent allows) award stars — without being able to change settings or billing. (verify)

Account & billing

How do I sign up?
Create a free account, add your children with their ages, choose a couple of goals, set your Goodling-mode passcode, and you’ll land on a ready-made first day.
How do I delete my account or export my data?
Both options are in Settings — you can export your data or permanently delete your account at any time.
